Hey All!
Hope you have had a wonderful summer.
This is
just a reminder that September is approaching fast and we will back to
having our quilt group on the Second Friday of every month at my house
at 10:00 a.m.
By popular vote, this year we will be making a row quilt! I am so
excited for this project! Mainly because you won't have to listen to me
babble every month. This year a different person from the group will
be teaching a new block each month. Don't worry we will continue with
the other fun stuff too like door prizes, tips and tricks and show &
tell. So, here is how the row quilt will work:
1. The first month (September) Erin Weber will teach the block. At
that first meeting we will have a sign up so those that are willing to
teach can sign up for a month. Now, I don't want anyone panicking about
the prospect of teaching! This isn't a mandatory thing, but if you are
willing, then you will have that opportunity. I am always here to
help, so don't be nervous! More details at the first meeting.
Above are a couple pictures of row quilts I have done in the past.
2. Each month, you will go home and make a row of blocks from the
block that is taught that month. If you complete your row each month,
then at the end of the year, you will have about 8 rows to make your
quilt with.
3. Fabric yardage: This is a hard one guys. Since there is no set
pattern that would give us yardage, it is hard to determine how much
you will need. You will definitely need 2 yards of a background fabric
(this should be a fabric that is much lighter than your other fabrics...
usually a white or off white, but can be a different color if you
choose). Then I would say about a total of 4 yards of different color
fabrics. These can be in quarter yard, half yard, or fat quarter
pieces. This is a great quilt to use up your stash with! If you don't
have a stash, then just start buying some pieces (especially if you see
them on sale). The nice thing about these types of quilts are that you
can add fabric if you start running out. Everything doesn't have to
match perfectly. I would be sure to have some dark, medium and light
tones, as these work best when trying to piece smaller blocks.
4.
The rows will measure 48.5 inches (it will measure 48 inches when it is
sewed in). This will allow blocks of varying sizes. You could have
12- 4 inch blocks, 8- 6 inch blocks, 6- 8 inch blocks.
I
have made two of these quilts with my Katy quilt group and they are so
much fun!
Here are some group members' fabric choices:
