This month, Sheryl taught us all how to make half square triangles (HSTs). The idea for our row is that we will make our entire row using half square triangles! You can make however many blocks that will fill your row and in whatever sizes you want.
1. Start by cutting your squares 1 inch bigger
than you want your finished square to be after it is sewn into your row.
So, if you want your square to be finished into your row to be 2 ½ inches, you will cut your
full squares 3 1/2 inches.
2. Put right sides together (one of each color).
3. Draw
a diagonal line from one corner to the other
5. Cut
squares down the line that you drew. (see #3 below).
6. Iron
squares open with the seam toward the darker fabric (or iron open if that is
how you like them)
7. Use
a ruler to square up your HST.
8. Arrange
in any order or pattern you like. Here are a few ideas for blocks that you could make up using half square triangles. Notice that in some of these patterns plain blocks are also incorporated.
